Frequently Asked Questions...
How do web design companies work and what information is needed from me as a new client?
Every company operates differently based on the services they provide, but it's usually a similar approach. Some projects will start out with tons of documentation, design guidelines, references, other samples, while some projects may start with a blank sheet of paper. Of course, the more information provided, the better the end product. Sometimes, a client isn't sure of how to begin or what is required - which is perfectly normal, it just requires some brainstorming sessions during the initial stages of development.
We believe that our approach to project management is the best - simply because we say so! Here's a quick breakdown of our project development timeline which is applied to all of our projects (some steps may be reordered, skipped, and or modified - so it's more of a blueprint.
Project Development Breakdown
- Needs Analysis - basically this step is figuring out exactly what you need your project to do in the end.
- Design - The first stage of life for your project starts with some wireframe sketches, pencil drawn schematics, and full blown photoshop renderings.
- Prototype - The prototype is the first level of interaction you will have with key features of your project. It is not a fully functional setup, more of a test drive to see how everyone will work.
- Production Development - Often times, this is the longest running stage during the process depending on the scale and complexity of the project. Every feature, every bit of functionality is added during this time.
- Launch & Continued Support - Your project is released into the wild to do it's job. Of course we'll be there along the way should your project stray or need to be modified for any reason.
How long it will take for your project to be completed is another element that is determined by project budget, if there is a set due date or launch date, the complexity of the project, etc.
Website design costs seem to depend on a lot of different factors, what gives? can't you just give me a price?
Regarding costs, it comes down to your budget and the timeframe you have allotted for the project. There's an old saying and it goes like this... "There is Quality, Fast, and Cheap. You may pick two." Basically, a website that is of the highest quality, done in a very short timeframe is not going to have a low pricetag. This can go an and on, but I'm sure you get the idea here.
The bottom line is what do you, the client, want overall and if it is not within your budget, how can the project be scaled down enough to fit within it.
Now, it would be wrong of me not to mention the usage of template websites, some kind of fancy-schmancy easy website creator premium software package, or whatever else. Some clients can get by with a pre-built cookie cutter design that has no customization at all, for very cheap. This often comes at an additional price tag should you want to upgrade, update, or modify any of the content. Contrast Logic provides quality web design and development services, no cookie-cutter are used here (except to make delicious chocolate chip cookies of course!).
Is it more beneficial to use your hosting or can I just pick a really cheap plan from GoDaddy or anywhere else?
Hosting plans seem to be a dime a dozen these days with more options to choose from then you you know what to do with. The bottom line is, those cheap hosting plans that cost you only a few bucks often have several drawbacks when it comes to custom web development. Many problems have surfaced and been cleared up simply due to the hosting plan packages.
Contrast Logic can host your project for you, in fact we prefer that you do, simply because we have complete control over the resources and the development environment. If we need to modify some big technical dohicky, we can - but it gets increasingly difficult when it's on another hosting environment. And we promise, our hosting plans will not break the bank... we often include them into the project price as a whole. And just so your aware, we are not in the business of web hosting. We make a living on project development, so your cost for hosting is the same as what we pay plus a minor markup to cover the costs associated with managing the servers. Can't beat that service.
